The call for artists for the second year of residencies is now open. Deadline for applications is the end of 2025.

Who are we looking for?

Artists and creatives (resident in EU or Creative Europe countries) who focus on process-led and site-specific creation. There is no restriction to specific media. All artforms will be considered (eg. visual arts, text, mixed media, sound, audiovisual, digital, actors, dancers, performers, musicians, writers, makers, creative thinkers, designers, etc.)

What’s so special about TISP residencies?

The residency starts as soon as the artist leaves their home. The travel to the residency space becomes part of the process. All artists travel slowly – there are no aeroplanes involved. The journey is curated to include visits to art spaces which are part of the Trans Europe Halles network, and other associated spaces. Each TISP studio is a recycled/repurposed space and artists working there will be encouraged to work sustainably. Project partners will provide mentorship and opportunities to connect with local communities and other TISP artists.

Artwork produced during the residencies and travels will be archived on this website and represented on a digital platform, and then curated for exhibition during the project symposium in Oulu in August 2026.

FAQ

Duos/Small collectives are eligible to apply, but due to the limited financial resources of the residency, a maximum of 1 representative of the collective can be afforded a travel budget, and receive a fee, however you can choose to split the fee and/or travel budget or to collaborate remotely during the residency.

No, TiSp’s aim is to research art potentials of diverse European routes.

No, TiSp supports only artists who commit to using slow travel.

No, we can not accept late applications and encourage applicants to submit well before the deadline to avoid missing out due to technical issues.

Choose one of the TiSp residencies to apply for. Create a single A4 PDF document to support your application (Max file size is 20Mb). This document should be 2 or 3 pages long.

Page 1 should give us an overview of you, your artistic practice, your motivation for choosing this particular residency and some initial ideas about the kind of things you hope to do during the residency and travels, keeping in mind the focus of each organisation. (MAX 600 WORDS).

The next page(s) should be a showcase of your practice. Please choose 3 recent projects to share with us. Links and videos are good, but please make sure we have passwords if necessary. If linking to a long audio/video file, please suggest a section we should focus on (max 5 minutes)

Application documents that do not fit this format, or are longer than 3 pages, will not be processed.

Fill out the online form and upload your PDF.

Yes, but an english translation that summarises the art work is necessary.

We are hoping that your application will give us an insight into your individual expression. We are looking for authenticity. Excessive use of ChatGPT can sometimes mask your true voice, so it is not encouraged. We do, however, understand that it can be a useful tool for those for whom English is not their first language, or who struggle with writing. There is space on the application form to clarify your use of AI.

February 25th 2026 at the latest.

The fee is 3000 euros gross for the one month residency that includes the time required for the travel, plus travel expenses, depending on the journeys. Accommodation and daily costs will be provided. Each artist is responsible to declare it in their own countries where they will be taxed accordingly.

If you have a residence permit or can otherwise prove residence in the EU/Ukraine/Creative Europe country, then you are eligible.

The project aims to support creatives that reside in Europe. However if you are in Europe when the residency starts, you can be eligible. We will however not support transport to the EU.

We can discuss this possibility after the selection, but cannot guarantee, also, we do not offer extra financial support for pets.

You should be available on those dates. There may be options to shift the residency by a couple of days in negotiation with the host.

Deep connections take time! The minimum stay at the host location is 14 days.

Yes, but on your own budget. We cannot facilitate artists for more than the agreed month.

The programme’s overall themes are slow travel and activation of tiny spaces through process-oriented work.

Specific focus per organisation:

- INWOLE: art and co-housing and art in public space

- Communitism:  space transformation through participatory practices

- TaikaBox: site-specific artistic process and cross-media collaboration

(look at our social media and our websites for more insights.)

The accommodation arrangements are different for the three locations. In Germany the participating artists will live in a small wooden wagon. On Communitism's and TaikaBox’s side, you will not be sleeping in the same space you will be working. An accommodation budget is provided by all organisations and bookings are arranged in collaboration.

This is the second residency we're organizing together. You can find more information on the first round during Spring-Summer 2025 here. Our organizations individually have experience in hosting resident artists, you can find more information in our social media or our websites.

We will look into how the artists will present their work in a hybrid manner (there will also be a virtual exhibition curated simultaneously). Travel expenses to bring the artists to Oulu for the final exhibition are not budgeted, but it is also not mandatory that the artists are there for that event.
